Joe Hovick's 100th career win and a narrow conference dual win provided most of the excitement in a wrestling quad hosted by Roland-Story on Thursday night (12/19).
The senior Hovick pinned Gilbert's Conner Clark in 1:53 to record victory no. 100 of his R-S career. The win by fall was bracketed by a pair of forfeits to give Hovick 101 wins for his career going into the Jim Kinyon Norsemen Invitational on Saturday.
The Norsemen went 1-2 in the duals against PCM, Gilbert and Colfax-Mingo. Roland-Story defeated PCM, 43-42, on criteria (most forfeit wins) after the teams were deadlocked at 42 through all 14 matches. Every match in the dual was either a fall or forfeit. Christian Eslick, Jackson Sterle, Eli Thorson and Jimmy Philipsen all picked up pins for R-S.
Gilbert beat the Norse, 60-24 in the second Heart of Iowa Conference dual of the night for Roland-Story. In addition to Hovick's win by fall, Colin Streit scored a victory by pin at 126 pounds for the Norsemen. Levi Webb and Eslick won by forfeit.
In a 48-33 non-conference loss to Colfax-Mingo, the Norse got wins by fall from Streit at 126 and Sterle at 160. Thorson won by a 6-0 decision at 170 pounds and Hovick, Eslick and Philipsen were credited with forfeit wins.
Roland-Story is 2-7 overall in duals this season, including a 2-2 conference mark.
