Roland-Story expects to be a contender for the Heart of Iowa Conference volleyball title and it won its first league match of the season Thursday (9/3) in Story City.
The Norse, ranked 11th in Iowa's Class 3A, swept PCM by scores of 25-20, 25-8 and 25-8 to move to 8-1 overall on the year and 1-0 in conference play.
The only lapse of the night for R-S came at the end of the first set. Leading 24-14 and serving for the set, the Norsemen allowed the visiting Mustangs (0-1/5-6) to rattle off six straight points to get within 24-20. Roland-Story finally closed out the set at 25-20 and then went on to allow only 16 points combined in winning the second and third sets.
The Norse are idle this weekend and return to action next Thursday (9/10) with a conference match against Greene County. That match was originally supposed to be played in Jefferson but has been moved to Story City due to Greene County's new gymnasium not yet being ready to host.
