A third-place individual performance highlighted the Roland-Story girls' showing at the Class 2A state track meet in Des Moines.
Junior Rachel Patton cleared 5-04 to place third in the high jump and earn six teams points for the Norsemen. Patton was one of six jumpers that cleared 5-04 on the day; no one made it at 5-06. Patton ended up in third position based on how many attempts it took to clear different heights working up to 5-04.
Roland-Story's 4x800-meter relay team of Kylie Tjernagel, Madeline Morton, Juliann Clark and Reece Johnson turned in its best time of the season in preliminaries but narrowly missed advancing to the event final. The Norse foursome timed in 10:08.39 and placed ninth in the prelims with eight moving on to the final.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Tjernagel, Taryn Johnston, Morton and Clark also competed at state, but did not make it out of the prelims with a time of 4:15.24.
Johnson also ran individually in the 1500 meters, where she placed 23rd in a time of 5:20.67.
Patton's six team points earned place Roland-Story 38th in the final Class 2A team standings.
