There was not much separating on the scoreboard Tuesday (1/07) evening as Roland-Story and Iowa Falls-Alden met in non-conference boys basketball in Story City.
The visiting Cadets prevailed in the end, 54-50, to drop the Norse to 6-3 on the season. Roland-Story is slated to return to conference play Friday night at home against Heart of Iowa Conference foe North Polk.
Seven points was the biggest lead for either team in the Roland-Story vs. Iowa Falls battle. IF-A led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter, but R-S responded with an 11-2 run for its biggest lead of the evening at 21-15. The Norse were still up at halftime 28-27.
But Iowa Falls controlled the third quarter and had its biggest lead at 42-35. It was 44-42 Cadets to start the fourth quarter. Roland-Story tied the game at 49 before IF-A closed out the win with a clutch three-point field goal and a pair of free throws in the closing seconds.
Sam Skaar led Roland-Story scorers with 12 points and Zach Twedt chipped in 10. Adam McIlrath pulled down a whopping 18 rebounds and also had four steals. Nolan Faber dished out five assists.
