Norse lose in regional opener

Roland-Story's softball season ended Thursday night with a 4-1 loss to South Hardin in the first round of Class 2A regional play in Roland. The Norse finished the 2009 season, the first under head coach Stan Oppedal, with an overall record of 15-19.
R-S jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning Thursday as McKenzie Neely doubled home Mykel Carlson. But South Hardin scored single runs in the third and fourth innings for a 2-1 lead. After Roland-Story left the tying and go ahead runs on second and third in the bottom of the sixth, South Hardin scored two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to account for the final 4-1 score.
Neely had two singles to go with her double to account for three of the Norse's five hits in the game. Neely's 3-for-3 night earned her Edward Jones player-of-the-game honors forv R-S.
