![]() Roland-Story rebounds to win twoPosted: 06/21/2009 - by Paul ClarkAfter two losses in pool play Thursday, the Roland-Story softball team bounced back with two wins in bracket play Saturday to finish ninth in the annual Kiwanis tournament at Roland.
The Norse defeated Perry, 2-1, and AGWSR, 8-2, on Saturday. The wins allowed R-S to climb back above the .500 mark for the season by weekend’s end. Roland-Story will take a 9-8 overall record into a Heart of Iowa Conference game Monday night at home vs. Gilbert. Roland-Story scored its two runs in the win over Perry in the fifth inning. Trailing 1-0, Molly Ammerman started the rally with a one-out single. McKena Carlson brought her home with a fly ball to left field that was dropped. Later, McKenzie Neely delivered a sacrifice fly that scored courtesy runner Alli Sheahan. Sarah Grimsley picked up the pitching win for R-S, allowing one run while scattering six hits in seven innings work. In the win over AGWSR, Roland-Story rapped out 11 hits and won easily after spotting the Cougars an early 1-0 lead. The Norse scored four runs in the second inning and added two more in the third and two more in the fifth. Dani Mott was 3-for-4 at the plate for R-S and Britney Halleland was credited with three RBIs in the victory. Ammerman was the winning pitcher for the Norsemen. -ARCHIVES- |
