![]() Norse lose two in Kiwanis tourneyPosted: 06/19/2009 - by Paul Clark The Roland-Story softball team lost two games in pool play of the annual Kiwanis tournament in Roland on Thursday. The Norse were downed by Ballard, 6-3, and Nevada, 12-6, and now stand 8-9 on the season. R-S will play in the 9th through 12th place bracket at the tournament on Saturday. Pool play continues Friday with pools C and D in action. Roland-Story does not play on Friday.
In the opener against Ballard, Molly Ammerman made her return to the pitchers mound for the first time this season and was the Edward Jones player of the game. She came on in relief and gave up just one run in 4 2/3 innings work. But Ballard already had a 5-0 lead and the Norse were unable to overcome that deficit. The Norsemen’s second game of the night was delayed twice by power failures at the softball complex. Roland-Story led, 2-1, in the bottom of the first inning when the lights went out and after that delay, Nevada scored five straight runs for a 6-2 lead. Roland-Story cut in to 6-5 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Nevada exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth to cruise to the win. R-S committed nine errors in the loss. Ashley Greff was the Edward Jones player of the game, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.
