Top-ranked Comets down Norsemen

Posted: 06/05/2009 - by Paul Clark

Coming off its first win of the season, the Roland-Story softball team played with greater confidence as top-ranked North Polk visited Bill Hennessy Field for Heart of Iowa Conference softball Thursday night.  The Comets won, 5-1, but R-S may have gotten better in the process.

The Norsemen managed three hits off reigning state player of the year Sammy Snygg from North Polk.  Snygg also homered for the #1 Comets.  Sarah Grimsley pitched for R-S, giving up seven hits while striking out three.

“We hit the ball fairly well in the game, the bats are coming around,” said Roland-Story head coach Stan Oppedal.  “We could have stayed with them a little more with a little better defense, but it was a good effort for us.”

Roland-Story, now 1-4, hosts Ames in a non-conference game Friday night in Roland.  You can listen to the game live right here on NorsemenNetwork.com.
