Near upset for R-S at Boone

It wasn’t always pretty, but Roland-Story’s 11-8 non-conference baseball loss at Boone Thursday night was entertaining. The Norsemen overcame a seven-run deficit to tie the game but couldn’t stop the Class 3A #5 Toreadors from escaping with the win in the end.
Boone jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first two innings, scoring four in the first and three in the second. What looked like a blowout got a little more interesting in the third as R-S scored three times. Gunnar Wyatt had an RBI single and Trent Muhlenburg and Zeb Hammes scored on a Boone throwing error.
It was 8-3 entering the fifth when the Norse scored four runs to make it a one-run ball game. Wyatt scored on an error and Matt Swanson and Bryce Sampson had RBI hits in the big inning. Then Roland-Story tied the game 8-8 in the top of the sixth as Hammes drew a two-out walk and later scored on an error. But Boone rallied with three runs it its half of the sixth to get the victory.
Muhlenburg started at pitcher for R-S. Wyatt came on in early relief and ended up taking the loss.
The 4-2 Norse host a four-team tournament Saturday in Roland-Story.
