Roland-Story bombs CMB

Posted: 06/04/2009 - by Paul Clark

After suffering its first loss of the year Monday at Woodward-Granger, the Roland-Story baseball team bounced back in strong fashion with a 13-2 victory at CMB on Wednesday.  The win in Baxter improved the Norse to 2-1 in Heart of Iowa Conference play and 4-1 overall.  R-S plays at Boone on Thursday night in a game that can be heard live here on NorsemenNetwork.com.

The Norsemen literally owned the game at CMB from start to finish, sending 13 men to the plate and scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning.  Bryce Holdredge had the big hit in the inning, a three-run homer to left field that put Roland-Story on top, 6-0.  Four other players drove in one run apiece in the big frame for the Norse.

RBI singles by Trent Muhlenberg and Gunnar Wyatt pushed the lead to 9-0 in the top of the third inning.  That was the score until the top of the seventh when R-S piled on four more runs.  Bryce Sampson had a two-run single in the late rally.  CMB got both of its runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Roland-Story already had an insurmountable 13-0 lead at that point.  Wyatt was 3-for-4 in the game while Muhlenberg, Zeb Hammes and Sam Crouch had two hits each.

Matt Swanson was the starting pitcher for Roland-Story and got the win, allowing no runs on four hits in six innings while striking out five and walking none.  Holdredge pitched the final two innings in relief for the Norse.
