![]() Norsemen win thrilling opening gamePosted: 05/29/2009 - by Paul Clark Roland-Story opened the high school baseball season at home Thursday night with an exciting 7-6 win over Eagle Grove in 11 innings.
Gunnar Wyatt had two home runs in the Norsemen victory. He staked Roland-Story to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run shot and he tied the game in the bottom of the 11th with a three-run blast. After Wyatt’s second homer tied the game at 6-6, Zeb Hammes tripled and later came home on a game-winning base hit by Bryce Sampson. R-S led 3-1 going into the seventh inning, when Eagle Grove tied it up with a pair of runs. It stayed 3-3 until the 11th when the visiting Eagles scored three in the top of the inning, setting the stage for the Norse’s four-run rally in the bottom of the frame. Matt Swanson was the wiinning pitcher in relief for Roland-Story. Wyatt started the game and worked six innings, allowing just an unearned run on four hits while striking out eight and walking one.
