Norse relay team makes state final

The Roland-Story 4x110 shuttle hurdle relay team qualified for the finals to highlight the opening day of the high school state track meet for the Norse boys Thursday in Des Moines.

Andrew Henning, Matt Swanson, Zeb Hammes and Bryce Sampson timed in 1:00.17 in the shuttle hurdle relay, winning their heat and claiming the eighth and final spot in the Class 2A finals of the event Saturday at Drake Stadium.

Just missing a spot in the finals of his individual event was Bryttan Thompson for R-S.  Thompson ran the 200-meter dash in 22.69 seconds.  He placed fifth in his heat with the ninth-fastest time overall.  That left him just outside the top eight that move on to the finals, and he missed advancing by just three-hundreths of a second (.03).

Also on Thursday, Roland-Story's 4x800 relay team of Seth Johnson, Jacob Morris, Cole Bllerbeck and Nolan Rasmusson competed but did not qualify for the finals.  The foursome timed in 8:21.51 in the event, sixth in its heat.

Friday at state, Roland-Story will have three individuals in action: Bryce Holdredge in the high jump; Jacob Rathmacher in the discus throw and Bryce Sampson in the 110-meter high hurdles.  Two Norsemen relay teams will also run Friday, in the 4x100 and 4x200 events.
