R-S girls third at conference meet

A pair of championship performances led the Roland-Story girls to within a point of team runner-up honors at the Heart of Iowa Conference track meet Tuesday (5/12) in Gilbert.  The Norse ended the day with 112 points, good for third place in the HOIC large school division.  Gilbert took first with 126 points and CMB finished just one point ahead of R-S in second with 113.  After the Norsemen, it was North Polk (98), Jefferson-Scranton (70), PCM (42) and Bondurant-Farrar (27) completing the team standings.

Ana Morgan won two sprint events for Roland-Story.  Morgan took first place in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.19 seconds and she was first to the tape in the 200 with a finals winning time of 27.52 seconds.  Morgan added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:06.41) to complete her day at the conference meet.

Claiming runner-up honors for the Norse in an individual event was Jenna Morris.  She took second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.76.  Roland-Story also finished second in three relay events.  Claiming third-place finishes in two other individual events were Rebecca Maughan and Amber Renaud.  Maughan was third in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:11.31 and Renaud was third in the high jump with a best jump of 4-10.

Other individual placers and scorers at the conference meet for the Roland-Story girls included: Maddie Oliver, 4th, shot put, 31-8; Kylie Anderson, 4th, 3000-meter run, 12:31.43; Mallory Peterson, 5th, long jump, 15-0; Rachel Hagedorn, 5th, 100-meter dash, 14.09; Hagedorn, 5th, 200-meter dash, 30.07; Anna Bruns, 5th, 400-meter dash, 1:06.41; Britny Halleland, 5th, 800-meter run, 2:43.22; Morris, 5th, 1500-meter run, 5:43.28; Hagedorn, 6th, long jump, 14-9.

Also: Sophie Howe, 6th, high jump, 4-8; Rebekah Titus, 6th, 3000-meter run, 13:14.25; Kay Betz, 6th, 100-meter hurdles, 18.45; Mykel Carlson, 6th, 400-meter hurdles, 1:16.78; Abigail Titus, 6th, 1500-meter run, 5:48.36; Oliver, 8th, discus, 89-0; McKena Carlson, 8th, 100-meter hurdles, 18.69; McKinzie Soderstrum, 8th, shot put, 27-6.
